Swalcliffe Horse Trials Championships 7 & 8 August 2015

After a long journey nearly 4 hrs to get there we set up camp together, and once the horses were settled (you needed to be marathon fit getting from the lorry park to stables!) we sat down together under Lynda’s gazebo with a jug of Pimms and once Louise and Mel had arrived we had supper -thanks to Lynda for an amazing summer pudding

We awoke to a dry and sunny day and everybody was up bright and early for the trot up of the 100 team. The 80 team went and walked the XC course which was inviting and beautifully built –all the fences were dressed with flowers etc and the going was good.

The 80 team all did a very good dressage test followed by what was a fairly technical SJ course which asked some questions – a curve to a double amongst one. There were faults all over the place and not many clears, unfortunately we all gained faults but all four flew round the XC going clear but gained time faults.

The 100 team were up against it with only having 3 team members but rose to the challenge over technical and up-to-height courses both SJ and XC.

The team all did good dressage tests but unfortunately gained faults SJ and time faults XC.

Mel as team pathfinder did a super job and unfortunately just missed out on the individual placings by 1 point!! Louise finished 10th overall individually and the team finished 15th overall, a fabulous result – well done girls.

It was a fantastic experience and we all enjoyed every minute of it! Would I do it again? Yes, tomorrow please?

A special thanks goes to both Gloria Outten and Lynda Benton for volunteering , without them we would not have been able to compete.

Thanks to Jennie Pitman for the report and all for the various pics sent forward

Area 14 and Championship Qualifier for Dressage & Riding Test at Stratford Hills

High Fen were well represented at the above competition and 15 members took part. It was great to see some new members coming forward. The weather was perfect as was the going. Our thanks must go to Jill Hillyard and her team from Deben R.C for an extremely well organised competition.

We had a very good day with two Dressage teams being placed , Winners in the Pairs and Music and many individual successes.

High Fen "Swallows" were second in the open team dressage. The team were, Fiona Gordon-Clarke with Jack, Jo Tootal - Seal, Holly Latham - Arnhem and Cher East - Alfie.

Fiona and Jack were 2nd in the Novice 24 and Jo won in her arena riding Novice 30.

Our chairman Maureen Mack rode her consistent mare Landmarks Fair Rhythm in the Medium qualifier and were 2nd.

Our other placed team was in the riding test. The team were Jo Tootal, Beth Levey, Holly Latham and Hannah Pearl, Jo was 2nd her arena with Beth 4th and Holly 5th.

Fiona and Cher teamed up to ride the Pairs dressage as did Jo and Beth. Fiona and Cher were the winners with Jo and Beth a very close 2nd.

Fiona and Cher also competed in the Pairs dressage to music and won that as well!

Fiona also rode Jack in the Nov DTM and were placed 2nd.

Sarah Motion with The Jokers Friend and Fiona, this time riding Mulberry, both rode DTM at Medium level, and after waiting in suspense for her score Sarah came out on top to win with Fiona 2nd.

Thank you from High Fen to all the riders and your well trained, happy horses for your continued support.
